Take The Risk – A poem about embracing your fear

Posted in Poetry by Amanda at 09:05 on 23rd July 2008

A person suffering from anxiety fears almost everything, I don’t want to live in fear anymore.

This poem makes me want to take more risks and live a little, maybe just because sometimes my life feels like it can’t get any worse.

To laugh, is to risk playing the fool

To weep, is to risk appearing sentimental

To reach out to another, is to risk involvement

To expose feelings, is to risk exposing our true selves

To put your ideas, your dreams, before the crowd is to risk loss

To love, is to risk not being loved in return

To live, is to risk dying

To hope, is to risk despair

To try at all, is to risk failure

But risks must be taken,

Because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing,

The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.

They may avoid suffering and sorrow, but they simply cannot learn, change, feel, grow, love, live…

Chained by their attitudes they are slaves.
