I first read this book 4 years ago when I was coming out of a bad phase in my depression, I found it offered a fascinating insight into our thought processes together with our feelings and how people suffering from depression can misinterpret their own emotions.

To read a book like this and get the most out of it does require a certain element of commitment but you will reap the rewards later.

Overcoming Depression is a very practical book that need’s to be read slowly in order to absorb all the information and get a true understanding of the advice given.

An immensely popular book with over 18 positive reviews on Amazon which in turn speaks for itself.

I found myself frequently thinking Paul Gilbert has really understood that when you are feeling your lowest one of the hardest things to do is actually read a book.

This book would be a greater asset to you if you combined it with cognitive behavioural therapy, there are frequent suggestions made within this book towards restructuring your thought processes and challenging your mind.

After reading this book I couldn’t help but think I was quite naturally challenging my negative thoughts.

You wont find medical jargon or complicated analogy’s in this book, and that is the very reason people from all walks of life really do believe this book can make all the difference.

Whilst tackling each issue with needed sensitivity, the result is highly effective and approachable although I can’t help but incessantly feel that the wisdom gained from mindful meditation is the key here.

This book is a touch of enlightenment and very cleverly pushes the boundaries of the reader although I must stress I would not recommend this book to anyone who isn’t open to change.

Each author has brought something very different to this book, giving you a sense of sheer calm and awareness.

Authors Detailed Below:

J. Mark

G. Williams

John .D. Teasdale

Zindel .V. Segal

Jon Kabat Zinn

A very diverse book and a genuine inspiration.

When reading this book you will instantly notice that it feels like it has been written by a friend.

Through out this book you will notice the personal feel and genuine caring elements which give you that feeling of trust.

I felt almost instantly when reading this book that I was relating to both the book and the authors.

With the 14 day plan you are guided through every stage of recovery with a full explanation of each feeling and emotion you may encounter along the journey.

Once you have delved in to the human psyche any reader would ultimately benefit from a heightened understanding and tolerance of other peoples emotions too.

Both Alexandra Massey and Marjorie Wallace have managed to touch the heart’s of both men and women with the embracing and loving feel this book carries throughout.

Whilst touching on their profound understanding of depression and how destructive it can be there is a valuable piece of this book I will take with me everywhere, when reflecting on my behaviour I will ask myself which “head” am I wearing now the adult or the child?

Beat Depression And Reclaim Your Life is a book that in my view should be on every book shelf in every house.

This book is really informative with case studies documented to broaden your knowledge of depression.

A book that makes you ask questions which in my opinion is exactly the inspiration needed when you are at your lowest.

Not just a book for those who suffer from depression but also a great read for those supporting someone who suffers from depression.

Richard O’Conner is quick to admit this book will not improve or cure your depression by itself although he does go on to say that detailed in this book is how to increase the likelihood of overcoming depression.

To me Undoing Depression is a book all about overcoming your ignorance and giving you the opportunity to take a step towards a brighter future.

Sometimes we are fortunate enough to realise we have been blinded by some of our own misconceptions, this book has been a real eye opener for me.

There is a significant following of this book and a lot of people who have read it would recommend it to anyone. It goes without saying that you can find many outstanding reviews of this book online.

Unlike a lot of books on this subject matter I was quickly drawn in by the authors personal experience with depression which I found added to the books readability.

The core of this book is all about what therapy doesn’t give you and what medication can’t give you however I am certain this book can give you everything else you may need on your journey.
